Easy run with strides. Legs are a little tired from yesterday still it was hard to get them to turn over very fast. Beautiful morning run.

Easy progression run with Nikki. Ending pace around 7:00. Legs recovering from the week and starting to feel good for tomorrow's long run.

Welcome to the blog, looking forward to running with you.

We are looking at 7am at the corner of Sunnyside and Park. Hope to see you there, I will call you if anything changes.

Sorry we didn't get to run together on Saturday, I hope you had a good 20 miler!

Last long run before St George. Didn't have much left at the end, but I guess that is to be expected on a week like this. 21 miles in 2:28, ending pace of 7:02. Tired to keep it as close to 7 as I could but didn't have the push left at the end to hold me. Still feeling good for the most part. Energy not zapped too bad. Now I get to start my taper!

Wish you could have made it out with us today. You seem to be really running well. You are putting in some great mileage, at fast paces. You'll have to make it out next time. Enjoy that taper.

Thanks, Curt. If anyone is doing a real early 5:00ish run next week let me know and I will do my best to get up there. I have all sorts of distances on the schedule for next week and could do just about anything other than Saturday. I get to pace my daughter for the 5K spud run.

Ran first 5.5 with Nikki at a slow pace and then picked it up for a speed work out at the end. Finishing the last 1.75 at a 6:30. Did not feel very good this morning body just was not quite right. Feeling fatigued and a little off. Probably will run a couple more miles tonight with my daughter to work on her pace for Saturday's Spud Run.

Took the kids to the track and tried to get Brytan used to her 8min/pace goal (8x200 1min) for the Spud run 5K. I'm not so sure she can hold it for 3 miles but she has surprised me before. Chloe and Jonah both ran also.

Beautiful full moon out this morning. It must have gotten my dog all crazy because he decided we were going to run faster than I had in mind. We ended up going out at a decent pace just to come back at a below my desired MP. It was good though because legs are fully recovered and are still feeling strong. Energy level still good.

This run has just about killed me. I'm extremely tired. Legs are really sore and my knee feels like a beach ball. It was just me and the dog again at least he coaxed me on at the right times this morning. Ran a handful of miles close to MP but really did want to and couldn't do more.

Afternoon run, I figure I need to do a couple of these in case it is a hot start time. Windy but pace came pretty easy, really trying to be extremely conscious of pace now that the race is coming up. With the taper legs are feeling fresh and trying to keep pace slower has become a bit of a challenge. I'm wanting to run more than my schedule has me, I guess that comes with the weeks of a lot higher mileage. The more I think about the race the more nervous I get. I'm worried about staying mentally strong for this run. It will be my first marathon so I'm not sure what to expect.

Great, easy run. Started around a 7:35 pace and ended at 6:40. Just felt like I was on cruise the whole time. Ran by feel and it all felt the same (watch was dead and used phone GPS instead). First time in a while I've ran with gloves and a hat. At least I didn't have to wear a jacket.

Easy run with some sprints. Great morning until my dog tripped me in the middle of my last sprint. I was real lucky to have been wearing gloves, which took the majority of the fall. He's never tripped me before but has been acting like an idiot this week. Maybe it is because I am tapering and he's not running as much....

Ran first part with Jeff, Gray, Curt, Nate and Lynette. It was a beautiful run and the first time I have ran with a group. Pace felt good and time went by pretty quick compared to running by myself. Getting excited for St. George next Saturday. Got home and decided to head back out for another 4 miles with my dog. Ran a 6:33 pace which felt really easy after being warmed up by Gray and Jeff. Really good morning.

Easy run. Sure was nice to run after the complete mess yesterday turned out to be. Thought I'd be headed down to St George but instead I was dealing with insurance agents and employees. Well not what I was hoping for. A lot harder on me than I thought. This week sucked but I still went. Got called from work on Friday night and got yelled at for being at the race. I really would like to fire that person. Stressed out and no sleep, so all in all I will take the time I ran. I was going great until mile 19 then my mental side lost it. I gave back all the time in the last 6 miles or so. I had held pace and every time I started running again I was back up to MP but I had absolutely no drive to run. I can't say I even gassed or hit the wall just didn't have it upstairs. It was good to see Jeff at the finish and talk with him.

That is a great time for your first marathon, tough conditions and all the work and life stresses you had that week! You should be proud of your accomplishment and know that there will be other chances when hopefully you have more mental and physical stability in your life.

It was great seeing you and chatting. Our prayers are with you in the hard times at work. Sorry about the tough phone call the night before, nothing like having a relaxing evening before this hard challenge.

Congrats Craig on your race. That is a very impressive time. Sorry to hear you didn't hit goal time, but considering the week you had I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. As far as the employee harrassing you, maybe they should try to put in the training that you did then see how they feel about it. Most other people just don't get it. Just me, my dog and the rain this morning. Really more therapeutic than anything else. I need days like these right now. Work until 11:00 last night and left this morning for work at 7:00. Easy morning run with Nikki. Hoping to get in a longer run at lunch. I need it, I'm wound pretty tight because of work this morning. 6.5 Miles

Afternoon run felt good, legs a little soft. I not real surprised running doubles like this. I decided to go for a longer lunch and thus longer run. Pace was ok ran 10.6 miles in 1:17. It was really windy but I sure feel better and more calm. Maybe getting my miles back up will help me sleep at night. I haven't been sleeping at all and yesterday I felt sick when I got up so that's why I skipped.

Signed up at Anytime fitness today so I have a place to shower while the building is being built. Now I can run all winter on a treadmill when it's nasty by the shop at lunch.

Me and the dog. Day off so I was able to sleep in a little and run early morning. Great cool weather and breeze, just can not beat this to run in. Calves are a little tight from yesterday but I was still able to run a good pace. Starting to run hills again after the break before St George, I can tell I don't have the same get up in my legs on them as before and I am still waiting for that pre race feeling to come back. I guess it takes a little while.

I'm enjoying running so much more right now. I can get away and meditate and it is doing so much good to just be able to think about life and what's going on without any real distractions. It is bring more fullness to my life I just have to be careful and keep it in balance, as I'm famous for being a little to obsesive about things.

Over slept and missed the group run. So I grabbed my dog and did a medium long run. Warmed up for two miles around a 7:30 pace and then dropped to around a 6:40 pace for the rest of the run. Nothing like the feel of the slight sting of your lungs to start off the day. Legs felt great. My left hamstring is a little soft but nothing to worry about. I'm feeling these last few runs in my butt a little bit more than I'm used to but It doesn't hurt just soft.

Good job getting out on a nice morning. I should have taken my dog out as well, but I had already committed in my head the night before to the TM. Plus, with my neck issue, I wanted to be able to stop whenever I wanted.

Not sure about a run tomorrow...we need to be to the gym by 7:30ish for my son's swim meet. So, I might go out really early or go later in the day.

Morning run. Just me and Hutch. Only passed two cars, it was a beautiful morning nice and peaceful. Only sound was the coyotes howling. Took the pace easy and relaxed.

I usually do a progression run but decided on going outside instead. Days like this will be hard to come by and since I don't have a race in awhile I did a tempo run instead. Felt pretty good but I have some type of a hip pointer or muscle pull in my butt. Once it warms up on faster pace it feels ok, slower paces it doesn't really bother me too much. 44:01/6:40.

She ran about a 2hr flat which was pretty good for her. She said the first few miles were real cold. I was trying to pay attention to give you a little yell but you were going pretty good when I passed you and I was enjoying a good uphill push so it happened pretty fast. You did really good that is an awesome time.

Energy levels good. Only complaint is the TM auto shut down on me at an hour and I was cussing it trying to get the pace back up, was hitting all of the wrong buttons all the ladies in the gym must have been wondering what was going on. Nice pace Craig. I know there's a way to set the tms not to shut off at the hour mark if they're the same ones as the Apple. Or you could just finish your 13.1 in under an hour and you wouldn't have to worry about it. Running great, keep it up.

Work and church obligations got me yesterday and I wasn't able to go, so today I decided to take advantage of slow work and a beautiful fall day and do a decent mileage run. I tried to maintain an even pace 7:15 and held 9 miles at that pace the only exception were the first couple of miles when I was trying to find my pace. The las few miles I pushed the pace closer to 7:00 just to see if I had a little left and hit that and held it with ease. Overall pace was 7:09 which is a good medium pace. I remember when this distance was almost a twice a week occurrence, now I need to psych myself up for it.

I was really excited this morning when I saw the weather and even brought some cold weather gear for this afternoons run, but when the wind came up it blew away my will to run outside. 5 quick miles at the gym. I was in meetings all afternoon on a pretty exciting venture the I'll be in on and developing over the next six months or so. It is good to be excited about learning new things again maybe this is why I felt refreshed to run or it might have been that I knew all I could squeeze in was a short run. Progression run Warm up 1-6:59, 2-6:39, 3-6:21, 4-6:18, 5-5:55. 5/31:48.

I got my shipment of supplements today so it looks like I'm back on them again. I going to try to pay attention to energy and fatigue levels very closely the next little bit. I really don't want to be paying for something that's not working but I was on them all summer and I was able to train and still have energy most the time. Big reason is that I've felt my distance runs have suffered tremendously since I stopped.......we'll see.

So my plans changed almost by the hour today. I checked the weather forecast last night and said "hey I might run outside tomorrow". Then I woke up and it was really cold and said "maybe gym", later on I flip flopped again. To make a long story short around 2PM I decided to run outside. Shorts, long sleeve shirt, hat, gloves and compression socks, I figured I was bundled up enough and took off.

I decided on my route that has several length possibilities. After 5 miles I decided not to go the longest and cut off to the shorter loop that still had 3 options. At mile 7 I was still feeling good but not really ready to go for the longest loop and settled for a good medium distance loop. I was able to hold MP relatively easy for most of the run other than when I went straight into the wind but as soon as I turned out the legs kicked back up. Pretty happy with the run today. I did somehow manage to tweak my right ankle and the muscle right below the ankle joint along the bottom of the foot is very tender. I'm going to heat/ice it tonight and see how it feels in the morning. 11.79/1:18:56/6:42

This is now day 4 of being back on the supplements and I can feel a difference. I seem to have more energy before and the run today didn't tax me like they have been doing. My legs felt like they had more pop for a longer time which was good and I will continue to monitor how I feel and energy levels.

I'm planning on cutting back this week and taking it easy so tomorrow looks like I could be elk hunting with the boys and just seeing how things fall it might be a spotty week of running for me.

No run today, went hunting with the boys instead. Had a great time, no elk just cold.

On a different note I think I may have really screwed up my foot not ankle as I thought. The exterior bone on my right foot is in just about unbearable pain if I step wrong. I tried ice/heat and boy that was the wrong answer. I made it hurt worse, so if I don't walk or step on the heel of my foot I'm fine. It needs to be loose in my shoe to feel ok. SO now its a wait and see, I might be spinning for a bit if I can't run tomorrow.

These last couple of days have been really good for me, a lot of sleep and relaxation. With the cut back in miles and activity I'm pretty much rearing to go but know I need to heal. I'm still taking my supplements, although I have cut back because of less activity. It has been a good week so far and I'm really enjoying the slow down. Huge break last week and it felt good. Foot is feeling much better and I should be back to normal before too much longer. On my way to Louisville, KY for the big RV convention hoping that I will be able to get in decent run tonight at the hotel.

PM run on the hotel treadmill. The neighborhoods don't look so good so I'm sure I going to do all my runs on the over-used worn out treadmill that is here. I'm more or less guessing on distance because the pace and distance were completely inaccurate. I feel pretty bombed so I'm guessing I could've gone farther at a faster pace but I'm trying to guess conservatively. All I know for sure is I ran for 1:15.

First off, Jeff you are my hero. This run killed me. I wasn't fully recovered from yesterday my legs were still a little soft. I had predetermined to do a speed work out in some resemblance of my buddy Jeff. So here goes the report....Started out at 6:39 "warm up". And went down from there. 1st 10K 39:16, last 4.2-26:02 (I varied speed all over here because I was blowing up the faster I went) The last .25 I ran at a 5:25 pace. Now everyone that is currently running extended 5:15 paces trying to OTQ are amazing runners. I am starting to appreciate the sheer speed people have so much more. I might have to reevaluate some of my personal goals but I would say that I'm still to stupid and my mind still is saying "that's attainable, an average runner can get there" so with that I'm planning on not walking tomorrow now and still running some type of shake out run with my wife outside if the weather allows. Overall run. 10.64/1:05:18/6:08

Heart Rate was down were is should've been, although one read was 188 bpm which is above my maximum estimated rate of 185. I didn't die and I wasn't completely out of breath at the moment so I'm guessing my max is higher.

I've been very sporadic with my supplements lately, I'm pretty much just on race caps right now. Energy has been decent but I need to get better food in me. All of this junk food will soon be done in a few weeks and all of the sugary temptations gone. I've been reading Suicide by Sugar lately and it definitely adds some guilt to what I've been shoving in my mouth not to mention how I feel. That's probably the biggest factor in why my body just doesn't feel right lately. Or it could be that I'm pushing so hard and not recovering enough i.e. sleep and slow runs...but I've had a break soooo I'm guessing crap food.

Suprisingly I felt better than expected this morning. Legs were a little soft before the run but not too bad. I took it real easy and tried to maintain a slow pace. My wife ditched me for her normal running partner today so this was a bit of a chore. I found myself looking at my watch and backing off more than usual. It ended up being an enjoyable run because I was finally outside and I ran with my dog who hasn't been out in a while.

I'm not sure what's better, my dog dragging me or a treadmill. The reason for the debate is today my old friend the "dog" came out and it was everything I could do to keep him off of my dog (good thing I had 5 miles left or I would have got a gun drove back and shot him) and at mile 13 a goat decided to follow us. The goat was the worst because it didn't matter how many times I hit him with rocks he wouldn't leave and my dog wanted to eat him so there were frequent stops and jerks. All of them made the last mile feel like 10 miles.

My stride was short and closed because my quads are still shot. My foot is still feeling "ok". It has not gotten any worse and is slowly feeling better.

I rolled 2000 logged miles today! If someone would've told me at the start of the year I'd do that, I probably would've told them they were crazy. It's been a fun journey and I'm almost ready to restart the odometer back to zero.

I could get used to running outside....two days in a row.

75% better = 25% chance I run today. Feeling ok, but body is still really shaky.

Early morning group run with Jeff, McKay and Sara. Started out slow and when my legs warmed up I felt good so I left the group a little and ran a bit quicker pace. Legs were feeling really fresh because I haven't ran the last couple of days due to sickness. I maybe better but was awoke at 4 AM by my 8 year old puking. After we got her cleaned up she woke up every 15 minutes doing the same. SO it was an easy decision to get out of bed and go running today. Really feel energized.

Fast MP run. Warm up 1 6:39, 2-8 6:15, 9 6:06, .5 cool down. Overall 9.5/1:00:27/6:22

Decided I need to feel a more consistent MP so I just set the TM and left it. Pace felt pretty good although at the end it was some work maintaining and dropping to faster finishing pace.

Still haven't fully recovered from being sick. My stomach is a mess and I have a real lack of energy. We'll see how this week progresses.

Ok so this beat me up a bit. I did some speed work at first. Quick warm up then 4 miles 24:37 / 6:06 short cool down then 3miles x 2 at 7:01 pace. My legs are blown up. Not sure if its because my mileage has been like a roller coaster the last month and a half or because I was sick last week. Anyways, I can't believe I do things like this to myself. I know it wasn't a hard run and I know I've done a lot worse and felt better but I hurt nonetheless.

Getting excited for Christmas, my 8 year old daughter woke up this morning and her first words were "5 more days till Christmas" with a huge smile on her face. Christmas is great when you're a kid. I love that mine are still little. Really enjoy reading Christmas stories and Christ's birth stories this time of year with them. There is really nothing better than the selfless acts of many, if even they happen more often once a year.

"Dog-Aided" recovery turned progression run.

I'm thankful for warm running tights, synthetic down jackets, balaclavas, compression socks, gloves and running glasses even when they fog up....

I forgot a Siberian Husky that goes nuts when it snows and pushes me worse than most running partners could.

Easy paced run. Legs a little tight. Beautiful day, I was wishing I would've brought my cold weather gear so I could've ran outside. I did a lot of visualization of where I would be on my routes as I ran. I forget how much time you have to think on longer distance runs. It was a good time just to relax and meditate and get lost in the run. Today was one of those days that help me to remember the joy of running, the rhythm and peace it brings.

I am thankful that I can run.

1 mile warm up then 3 miles x 3 at HMP/Threshold. Felt better than earlier in the week. Now I'm off work until January 2. Next week looks like a couple days skiing with the kids.

I'm thankful for my family.

Ran with Jeff for about 9 miles this morning. It was a great run and I think I was laughing half the time. Weather was awesome this morning no breeze and about as mild as it gets for December. Left Jeff and continued on to loop SRL and then back to the car. In SRL I encountered one of our famous idiot drivers who enjoyed rolling down his window and having his passenger hang out to the window to yell at me. Its all ok because I was enjoying a good pace and run.

I'm starting to like my more neutral Brooks Launch more than my Racers or Adrenaline that have the over pronation support in them. I'm going to get some new shoes here soon to replace my Adrenaline and am thinking about changing things up and getting a different brand.

Had a great Christmas with the kids, just enjoyed watching them.

4 mile warm up with Nikki. She did really good this morning after running yesterday she said she felt a little tight so it was a good shake out for her. I haven't ran with her in a long time and it was great. Should be a good week running with her.

6.68 miles at or near MP. The cold wind got me a little on the way home and I haven't ran the hill in awhile so it was harder to maintain pace going up. Overall the run felt good.

Now off for a day of playing with the kids, maybe bowling.

TM workout. Started out at MP and worked down to a HMP for a total of 9/56:30/6:17. I took my son to the gym at the urging of my wife and ended up having a pretty good time. He watched Tom and Jerry and ran 3.75 miles, which was great for him. He didn't complain and even talked to me a bunch. I might have to drag him back in one more time before the break is over.

Looks like skiing on Friday as long as it snows. Yeah!!

Your mileage this year has taken you from Seattle, WA to South Bend, IN (Notre Dame University)!

I better keep going. I only root against two schools ...BYU and Norte Dame. Pretty cool to think I've run that far. Now just about to be reset to back home.

Wind, Treadmill, Wind, Treadmill. TM won out so I ran indoors. I had no energy today. Was planning on doing more than double this but just ended the run because I just wasn't feeling it. I checked my heart rate a bunch of times and it was were it should've been, so I'm going to chalk this up to poor fueling and going to bed around 1AM last night after going to Lava last night. The great thing about this is even though it turned out to be a bummer run, I have no training schedule to follow right now so it doesn't matter. At least I got out and did a few miles. Sometimes I feel like an addict...just got to do it to keep me going.

I need some sleep....

So the bed felt pretty warm this morning and it was tough to peel myself out of it. Good thing for the group run today or I wouldn't have gotten up. Last run of the year with Jeff, Curt, McKay and Andrea.

I didn't feel very good this morning and have felt a little under the weather so it seemed a little tougher than it should. Came home and sat in front of the fireplace trying to get warm but now as I'm away from it I getting cold again.

Year in Review:

I never thought I would run as much as I did this year. It has been fun and I've enjoyed it a lot. When I ran Ogden Half Marathon at the start of the year I never dreamed I would do as well as I did in it. I think it helped fuel a lot of my running this year. The 10K race I did in the middle of the year taught me more about racing strategy. Having a guy sit on my hip for 5 miles only to pass me with about  1/2 left to go gave me a good lesson. And let's not forget St. George, my first marathon. I was planning and training on running it much faster than it turned out but it was a bad week. I've replayed that race in my mind a thousand times on what I could've done better and a million different solutions have come into my mind. So I'm excited to see what a new race season and a few races will teach me this next year. I hope to still have the fire inside next year at this time. Only time and more miles will tell.
