My only shot at a long run this week. It was pretty tough on me didn't really have any legs today and the heat got to me pretty bad. Of course I had to make a few drining stops for the dog along the way but he did really good for hot and long.

7 - This was a whole lot better than this morning. Felt much better all the way around. Had some stomach issues right at the end but not too bad. Ended up going fishing and I must say I was King of the Small fish tonight. Plenty of 12" fish landed only one decent one but at least I was unhooking fish all night. Easy day tomorrow.

So this is the race my mother in laws company puts on. I ran a 2 mile warm up on the course to kind of check it out before the start. At the start there were a few guys who looked like they may be fast so I wasn't sure what to expect at the gun I started out pretty good and found myself in the lead. From the start to about 1.5 There was a group of 3-4 of us running together not quite sure because I was not looking back and just could here the footsteps. After that it ended up being me and the Kuna cross country coach. I was figuring he wanted to turn it into a sprint at the end so around 2 I started to try and push the pace down. At 2.5 I threw in a surge and ended up dropping him and held on strong to finish. This race felt like a bit of a vindication after my epic blow up in the half I ran a few weeks ago. I went out smarter and stayed within my goal pace. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have run the time I ran without having a good push to help out. After I finished I ran back and started getting the kids. Brytan ran 25:48, Chloe 29:12, Jonah 31:27. They all did so well and we really enjoy running this as a family. I was surprised at the amount of times under 20 min. The competition was much better than last year. Now off to my wife's 20 year class reunion.

7 - AM Run with Nikki. Nice and relaxed.

10.6 - PM MP tempo run. I know I need to run more of these or it's going to be hard to hold them in a race. Suffered through this one a bit. 10/1:05:45/6:25 with .6 WM/CD. Heart rate was a little high.

Easy miles during lunch. Saucony sent me a 50% off coupon to make good on the blown out Triumphs. I thought that was pretty decent of them, so I ordered another pair to try out.

AM - 13.05 Bro-Lo run. We did a 8 mile tempo run for him to see how his pace would hold up. He did really well. After I dropped him off I went out for one more loop of 5 miles at tempo pace for me. Held up pretty good paced at around 6:25 for last 5.

PM - 6 Forgot my socks so I ran without, really wanted to run 7 but started feeling a burning in my foot so I knew I needed to bail so I didn't blister up. Recovery run.

How is sailing an olympic sport? If you can sail boats why not race cars and motorcycles? Wouldn't it be the same?

Easier hill run this morning, really had to pay attention to form. Felt like I was breaking down a bit. After the run I was eating breakfast and my legs fell asleep it felt really good and I just wanted to go back to sleep but instead I showered and went to work. What a life.

5 dog chases and one flock of geese in the road made it a bit difficult with the dog today. The neighbor's Great Dane which I absolutely hate took out a bike rider yesterday. The guy had to be hauled to the hospital in an ambulance. This morning I saw the same dog running unleashed again. I think if he chases me one more time I'll talk with the owners about taking care of it. My dog would've already been put down if it took out someone. There is no excuse for idiot dog owners. The dog is the size of a horse not a little dog it needs to be taken care of.

Easy MP run. I was looking at my Saturday run and checking distances. My phone gps had me at almost 18 miles while my Garmin had me closer to 17 (they are typically within .1-.2). I looked at the maps for both and they both look pretty legit. I guess that is what I love the most about a gps, it gets you somewhat close most of the time. Ahh well at least I ran while I was camping.

AM - 10.4 Pretty hard to get up and get going this boring. I really wanted to sleep in and just relax but somehow managed to get up and going. I don't like all the smoke and dust in the air it makes it seem so gloomy. Body is still pretty beat from camping and wake boarding this weekend.

PM - 7.6 Easy run. I getting a bit of tendonitis back in my left ankle. I'm try to pay close attention to this with Pocatello fast approaching. I'm also tensing up quite a bit in between my should in my lower neck. I guess I whining now.....

AM - 13.09 Bro-Lo run. He hadn't done anything over 9 and it really showed. After 10 he was begging me to walk but I somehow managed to talk him through the run. Pace fell to piece at this point but he kept moving which was a good mental victory. I felt pretty fresh after the run and probably will do a harder paced run around lunch time.

PM - 7 Tempo paced run 1@6:40, 6@6:15. Felt tired but handled the run and pace just fine. I can't believe how smokey it is today. I work with a guy who smokes and he says the smoke in the air is killing him.....pretty funny.

AM - 5. Rough morning. Everything just felt bad, legs, arms, stomach, neck and ankle. It seems that my friend Mr. Tendonitis decided to pay my ankle a visit again. I have felt it coming on but its back to ibuprofen and ankle brace for now, ice at night.

AM - 7.2 Ankle is still pretty soft. I had a tough time breathing this morning. I could really taste the smoke in the air. After the run and shower I fell back to sleep for 30 minutes.

PM - 14.45 on a bike. I just don't want to push this ankle at this point. I figure running in the morning is about all I should be doing. I hate spinning, but I did get in a pretty hard effort. Why is it I can run forever and walk fine afterward but put me on a bike for a few miles and I feel like I could tip at any point.

18.45 - Spinning again. My ankle hurt so bad when I woke up this morning, my whole body in general is bad right now. I'm icing at night and on a limited running schedule and just hoping I can get to the starting line in two weeks healthy and still in race shape. I was really encouraged by my 5K a few weeks ago but right now I know I can't run well or even a marathon on how it feels. Here's hoping...

Bro-Lo run 3x3m w/.5 float. He did really good. My ankle felt ok but is still a ways from healthy. I still need to stay on the bike this week and next and run what I dare. Tried out my new Saucony shoes. They are way better than the triumphs. Glad I gave them another shot. I really like these ones.

Now it's time to ice the ankle and work in the yard.

Ended up with a late night run. Finished it off at 11:40PM. Nikki needed to run some so she went out the first half with me then I repeated the loop hoping to get to race pace and see how I felt. Well.....ankle hurt pretty bad most of the run. Towards the end it kind of dulled so I'm a bit hopeful that it will at least do that during the race. At Jeff's suggestion I wore compression socks to see if they helped and I can't really say if the did, I'll see how it feels in the morning. First half of the run was at a pretty slow pace and then the last 6 were 6:48 (just starting to get the feel of turn over) 6:12, 6:56 (a pretty good climb), 6:37 (moderate climbing), 6:20, 6:19, 6:03(last 1/2 mile pace). I felt pretty decent on the flats, the down hill the ankle felt the worst.

Looks like life might it really crazy, I think we are accepting the offer on our house tonight. With no plans on exactly what to do next it's a bit unsettling.

If I count cross training miles (which I have been) I just passed last years miles tonight :)

14.44 / 45 min spinning doing hill climbs. I was planning on running yesterday and today but woke up both mornings with my ankle just throbbing so I slept in. Was going to spin yesterday but it turned out crazier than I thought. The next few days I'm going to try and rest it as much as possible, doing on a short run tomorrow or Thursday and spinning. It will be real interesting for me to see how my body will respond to this type of taper. I still feel really good on the bike and I'm able to put in a lot of effort and keep my HR where it needs to be. The scary thing  is I'm getting used to the bike and it's not so bad anymore. I think I'm enjoying it a bit.

House is sold, glad I'm not in St. George I'd have to pull out.  Need to be out of the house by Oct 1. Now, build or buy.....

Easy run / Ankle test. Didn't feel very good today just kind of sick I guess. Ankle was OK. I woke up and its the best its felt in a couple of weeks so I decided to try to run. I wore my compression pants to help support it all the way through the knee. Around mile 3.5 I could feel a "twinge" and it was just a dull pain after that. Really didn't bug me but I know I'll have to concentrate on my form or it will throw everything off and might start hurting in strange places.

9.72 / 30min Spinning again. Not sure what to expect Saturday. I guess it will either hold up or it won't. A marathon is a heck of a way to test the thing out. I haven't had any long tempo runs or long progression runs in awhile. Ankle sore to the touch right above the inside heel bone.

10.44/35 min. Spinning. Turned down the resistance off of normal. I wanted 30 minutes but opted for the cool down 5 minutes as well. I'm feeling great today. Lots of energy. I think everything other than the ankle is good for tomorrow.

I have no illusions its going to hurt. I would guess pretty early into the run. I'm trying to prep myself mentally for it. I need to focus on keeping form and staying inside my pace guidelines (especially during the huge downhill at first). I hoping for a good run but who doesn't the day before a race? If I can get past this ankle everything else seems great.
